A marrow or blood cell transplant is performed to help patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and other life-threatening diseases live longer and healthier lives. The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) contains more than six million records. New donors continue to be added through organizations across the nation. Our client, a National Marrow Donor Center, adds between 50,000 and 100,000 donors every year. The NMDP increases the amount of transplants each year and is expected to double their capacity by 2015, thus increasing objectives for all national donor centers. Our client sought a way to improve workflows and migrate from an old system and database to a more stable system. This transi¬tion had to be accomplished without adversely impacting current day-to-day operations.
Data Blueprint developed and deployed three custom software solutions for lab interface, donor attributes and workflow management. These solutions provided faster, more automated systems that enabled more simplified workflows and decreased turn-around times between initial donations and life saving transplants in a faster, safer and more reliable manner.
