Data Blueprint CEO takes on new role at DAMA International
Richmond VA, January 1, 2010: Dr. Peter Aiken (http://www.peteraiken.net/), CEO and founding director of Data Blueprint and associate professor of information systems at Virginia Commonwealth University, has been elected president of DAMA International for the 2010-2011 term. Dr. Aiken is an internationally recognized thought-leader in the data management field. He has been a member of the National Capital Region DAMA Chapter (DAMA NCR) since 1993 and served as a member of the DAMA International Advisory Board from 1998 until 2006. Dr. Aiken is also a member of the founding board of the DAMA-Central Virginia (DAMA-CV) chapter where he has been a very active member since 1999. In 2010 he was awarded the International Stevens Award by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in recognition of his "outstanding contributions to the literature or practice of methods for software and systems." In 2005, Dr. Aiken received the DAMA International Community Award, as well as the DAMA International Achievement Award in 2001 in recognition of his significant contributions in the field of Information Resource Management. With over 25 years of business and information technology experience, Dr. Aiken has held leadership positions within the U.S. Department of Defense and consulted with more than 50 organizations in 20 countries across a number of industries, including defense, banking, healthcare, telecommunications and manufacturing. He is a highly sought after keynote speaker for workshops, seminars and customized training.
Dr. Aiken plans to continue the focus of DAMA International's Board on providing support for DAMA members, stating: "We have three strategic goals at DAMA focusing around elevating, empowering, and enabling our constituents – the world's business and technical data professionals. We will continue to elevate the visibility of the practice of Data Management – DAMA International is known world-wide as the strongest community for data managers. Our second goal is to empower through knowledge accumulated by the community, through local chapter networking, international conferences, the DAMA Data Management Body of Knowledge, and professional certifications. We enable our members to increase the value of their data assets through appropriate management practices, providing the perfect justification for DAMA membership! In this manner DAMA Members will continue to be seen as key players in IT development and implementation."
