Data Blueprint's founding director Dr. Peter Aiken and other Data Blueprint Associates work closely with the Department of Information Systems and its Information Systems Research Institute - both are part of the School of Business at Virginia Commonwealth University. This arrangement permits Data Blueprint and its affiliates to benefit from the best of academic, industry and governmental partnerships.
Data Blueprint Founding Director Dr. Peter Aiken, PhD
Founding director and principal owner, Dr. Peter Aiken, spearheads the development on a technological basis for Data Blueprint's research efforts in conjuction with associates, sponsors and affiliates. He has more than 20 years of business/information technology experience. Dr. Aiken's achievements have resulted in recognition in Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in American Education and other biographical compilations. He is the recipient of the 2001 DAMA International Achievement Award (with Ted Codd). His clear and concise presentation style makes him a sought-after speaker and he has spoken at numerous foreign and domestic conferences and events.
Virginia Commonwealth University
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is a Carnegie Doctoral Research University and located in Richmond, VA. Data Blueprint's founding director, Dr. Peter Aiken, is an associate professor in VCU's Department of Information Systems. Through its Office of Technology Transfer, VCU has exclusively licensed to Data Blueprint intellectual property developed by Dr. Aiken. Through the same office, VCU holds a 7.5% minority share of Data Blueprint. Another 7.5% ownership is held by the Department of Information Systems.
School of Business
While primarily focused within the Department of Information Systems, Data Blueprint offers opportunities to students and faculty throughout the School of Business. These include academic awards and research co-developed with other faculty peers that are sponsored by Data Blueprint.
Department of Information Systems
The Department of Information Systems holds 7.5% of VCU's ownership in Data Blueprint. We hire largely from among VCU information systems and other School of Business students who apply for positions sponsored by Data Blueprint. In these cases, we often employ the students directly in research projects that
- are primarily production oriented
- call regularly for a full-time (40 hours/week) commitment
- require implementation of bonus-oriented pay structures, or
- require project management responsibilities that require graduated billing rates
Information Systems Research Institute
Dr. Jean Glasen, founding director of the Information Systems Research Institute (ISRI), developed ISRI's motto:
"We are bringing our school back to business."
Data Blueprint enthusiastically endorses ISRI and supports its mission by focusing on research projects that compliment ISRI activities. In addition, Data Blueprint often sponsors associates and facilitates collaborative efforts through ISRI in order to compliment sponsored research projects.
DAMA International
DAMA International is a not-for-profit, vendor-independent, global association of technical and business professionals dedicated to advancing the concepts and practices of information and data management. It is DAMA's mission "To promote the understanding, development and practice of managing information and data as a key enterprise asset."
Data Blueprint's founding director, Dr. Peter Aiken, has been elected as the current president of DAMA International. He is also a member of the founding board of DAMA's Central Virginia (DAMA-CV) Chapter.
