Business Case

ColonialWebb is a Richmond, Virginia-based contracting firm that was faced with a multi-platform ERP migration as a result of a merger with a sister company.  The organization sought assistance from Data Blueprint to create a balanced analysis, design, test and database migration plan to meet their fiscal and time constraints.

Solution

Data Blueprint integrated data from two different ERP systems into one new ERP system.  As part of this effort, Data Blueprint analyzed data from each of the previous systems and mapped it to the new system.  The value of this technique lay in the ability to streamline the time that it took to analyze the data and meet a very tight “go-live” deadline.

Technical Environment

  • Bluegrass Accounting
  • Microsoft Great Plains
  • PENTA

Results

Data Blueprint’s engineers provided ColonialWebb with significant experience and proven tools to migrate data from its existing legacy systems to a new ERP.  Our team applied Data Blueprint’s mentoring methodology throughout the data migration process, which allowed ColonialWebb’s associates to understand both the business and technical issues.  These two factors were key to the success of the ERP migration.  During this process ColonialWebb learned how to avoid typical data migration pitfalls as well as how to save rework time.

Client Testimonial

“ColonialWebb began using our new ERP January 1 – exactly according to the project plan I set in motion 10 months earlier.  The project resulted from a recent merger of two leading Richmond and Norfolk based companies.  The merger required that ColonialWebb abandon two dissimilar platforms then carefully cleanse, transform, and migrate thousands of client, vendor, and service location records.  Data Blueprint provided key technical and project leadership throughout the effort.  Their technical advice was never in error and their commitment to our success was unparalleled in my 30 years in technology management.  The project was an absolute textbook success.  Under budget, on-time, users fully trained, and not a single disruption to our clients.  I would not have succeeded without the commitment and expertise Data Blueprint brought to the project.  If Data Blueprint does not win this award (2006 GRTC IT Builders Award) you need to create one for them.”
